Megan
Sturges is an adjunct faculty member in the Art Therapy program
at Southwestern College. She also works as an Art Therapist
and Psychotherapist in private practice as well as a multi-media
artist. Megan began her adult journey as a weaver and owner
of Penelope's Web, a small weaving and yarn store in Maine.
After moving to New Mexico 25 years ago in search of a broader
horizon she pursued advanced degrees in Art Therapy and Counseling
while raising her children. She also completed three years of
Jungian analytic training.
Megan
works from a Jungian Archetypal perspective with the images
and stories that emerge in dreams, memory, imagework and daily
life. In her work with clients, she strives to create a safe
container for experiencing the suffering and transformation
that happen as one discovers and lets go of old patterns and
opens to new experience. In addition to working as a therapist,
Megan has done organizational consulting for PNM, led workshops
for the Judicial Education Center and teaches classes on Jungian
Typology, The Enneagram, Re-imagining Ourselves and The Heroine's
Journey for UNM Continuing Education.
Megan's
work as an artist comes from her training in Art Therapy, which
emphasizes art as exploration and views the image as a reflection
of the unconscious process. Megan works in many mediums including
acrylic painting, multi-media collage and clay. Her images evoke
archetypal inner landscapes, reflecting her belief in the truth
of the imagination. Some of her work can be seen on her website:
