When I was in San Francisco working as a management consultant in the 90’s one of my jobs was to coordinate and oversee mental health interventions in the workplace for about 750 organizations in the U.S. If there was a bank robbery in LA, I would find a counselor with a trauma background and send her to the bank to debrief and counsel the traumatized employees. If there was a natural disaster like a fire or earthquake or flood I would locate counselors and send them to the location to provide services. During this time I relied on one person in LA quite a bit. I sent 100s of jobs her way to handle for us. As it turns out I never knew she was an art therapist. She never got around to telling me about that part of her practice. All I knew was that she was a darn good trauma counselor. I only discovered later while reading a book that she had actually held a leadership role in the field of art therapy!
