Ocate, New Mexico

40 CEUs Available

The Program

Southwestern College is pleased to announce the second annual Summer Institute, a land-based residential retreat held in beautiful and remote setting in the mountains of northeastern New Mexico. This retreat offers participants an opportunity for rich experiential learning, as well as deep personal renewal and creative self-expression.

Masks from Summer Institute 2007

Led by SWC faculty Kate Cook and Diane Haug, with additional facilitators John Olesen and Lon Rankin, the retreat represents a collaborative exploration of three powerful psychotherapeutic tools: Jacob Moreno's Psychodrama and Action Methods, Stanislav Grof's Holotropic Breathwork™ and the fertile, interpersonal ground of the community itself . Through both theoretical presentations, as well as deep experiential work, participants will have the opportunity to access the healing potential inherent in each approach.

Because the value of any deep therapeutic work is, in part, dependent on our ability to integrate the material we ware being offered, participants will be offered a variety of tools to further explore the themes and insights that have emerged during experiential work. Supportive modalities will include meditation, art, journal writing, dream exploration, movement, guided time in nature and sacred ritual.

The retreat will be of value to the advanced practitioner seeking training and continuing education credits, as well as those new to the field who are interested in personal growth. It will be an excellent opportunity for self-care for helping professionals.

Summer Institute 2007 Participants & Teachers

"Although transpersonal experiences are potentially healing, their effects are temporary unless an effort is made to stabilize the insight gained. The task, therefore, goes beyond the induction of such experiences to the task of integrating them effectively into everyday life."
