This course describes the grief process from various perspectives and models, with the study and treatment of grief and loss as the initial focus. Discussion of cross-cultural issues, traumatic grief, the role of substance abuse, special populations, AIDS-related grief and the creation of effective support systems is included in the course content.

Janet Schreiber, Ph.D., is the founder and director of SWC’s Trauma, Grief and Renewal Certificate Program. She has taught and trained counselors and other health professionals for over 35 years. She directs the Caring Can Be Shared outreach program, facilitates an ongoing Survivors of Suicide group, and is the founder of Santa Fe Doorways, a coalition to improve end-of-life care.
