Johanna Mitchell, MS, NCC, LPC-SA (LA), LPCC (NM) is a graduate of Capella University in the APA accredited clinical psychology program, with a dual degree in Psychology and Political Science from Tulane University in New Orleans. Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, she was initially licensed in NM in 2009, then in LA in 2011 where she has been practicing for the last 13 years. Her clinical experience has included clinical roles in psychotherapy, forensic assessment, clinical education, compliance/quality assurance, and credentialing readiness for CARF and JCAHO. Most recently she has been working with a Children’s Advocacy Center providing bilingual trauma therapy to kids who have been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse. Her theoretical orientation is eclectic, combining CBT and integrated somatic work with reference to MI, DBT, and ACT. She specializes in trauma work with children and adolescents (TF-CBT, CFTSI, EFT, EMDR, art therapy, play therapy), and adults (EFT, EMDR, CBT), while also focusing on issues of neurodivergence and identity, particularly in Spanish speaking and LGBTQIA+ communities. As a credentialed clinical supervisor, she focuses on helping clinicians with operationalizing, applying, and refining skills and concepts learned in academic settings to their day to day work, supporting them to develop and fully embody their professional identity. During graduate school she worked as an EMT doing fire rescue response in LA County and in the CT-ICU and PICU at UCLA Medical Center as a critical care tech and unit coordinator. She continued as a CPR/First Aid/AED/BLS instructor and instructor trainer with the American Red Cross, classes she still teaches several times a year.
