During the initial doctoral course, VPRL 600 Residency I Seeking, for our morning experiential learning activity of taking it to the land, I brought my camera and spent time in the angular and clearly identified dome of compassion at the Chi Center outside of Santa Fe.
In my visual and written wandering, I was thinking about what attracts humans to structures, and frames. The edifices of the built environment provide a sense of safety. The definition of edifice also means a complex system of beliefs. As I was contemplating this, I realized the photographic composition provides me with a sense of stability, a temper for the wild unknown.
If photography were a measurement of time, I have lived through many images. I have many moments, captured in physical film, in pixels, and in the low-resolution of early digital technology. Now, I give myself permission to also speak through words and eventually even integrate the two so that they might complement and befriend each other
