Justine Mastin, MA, LMFT is an educator, an author, and a disruptor of the status quo. Justine is a champion for the power of stories and is passionate about bringing authenticity and creative innovation into healing and leadership spaces. She has been supporting emerging healers since 2018 as an AAMFT-approved Supervisor, and since 2020 she has been educating emerging healers and leaders as an adjunct faculty member at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, University of Massachusetts Global, Sofia University (formerly Institute for Transpersonal Psychology), and California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS). Justine is also a certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist.
Justine has co-written two books: The grieving therapist: Caring for yourself and your clients when it feels like the end of the world and Starship Therapise: Using therapeutic fanfiction to rewrite your life, and has contributed to numerous other texts, often discussing the intersection between psychology and the modern mythologies of popular culture. Justine is a regular speaker at popular culture conventions and has given a TEDx talk on her work with therapeutic fanfiction.
Justine graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota in 2005 with a BA in Sociology and a Minor in Hebrew. In 2011, she went on to receive a MA in Addiction Counseling from Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School, and in 2013, she received a Post-MA Certificate in Family Psychology from the University of St. Thomas (MN). For more than a decade afterwards, Justine bore witness to others’ deepest pains, greatest joys, and everything in-between, as a therapist in private practice. The focus of her work was with those who have felt left out of traditional wellness conversations, specializing in working with geeks, nerds, punks, queer folks, and those who came out of high-control groups. In 2024 Justine stepped back from direct client care to focus on the wellbeing of healers themselves. She began pursuing a PhD in Visionary Practice and Regenerative Leadership at Southwestern College in order to discover visionary and regenerative approaches to training emerging healers.
