Therapist, movement specialist, mythologist, educator, researcher, and performer born in Guadalajara, Mexico where she obtained her B.A. in Psychology and began her love for dance. Marialuisa’s professional experience in psychology, somatics, and the arts spans over twenty years and includes work in education, private practice, and community. She has presented in conferences internationally in both languages Spanish and English.
Marialuisa is the creator of Mythic Life: Embodying Wisdom, Beauty and Courage where she brings her expertise to work with women empowerment through a forward thinking integration of myth, arts, somatic movement and archetypal psychology (mythiclife.net). Through Mythic Life she focuses in working with women who are undergoing developmental transitions and/or life crisis such as: grieving miscarriages, leaving marriages or long term relationships, transitioning into perimenopause/menopause, facing cross-cultural experiences and challenges and developing self confidence and leadership in the workplace.
She holds the office of Board President for the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association -ISMETA. She served as Program Director and core faculty at Tamalpa Institute in California and continues to supervise advanced students’ fieldwork projects. Marialuisa is a registered Expressive Arts Therapist through the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) and she is also a registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator from ISMETA.
Marialuisa is committed to provide people with adequate guidance so that they can live with self-agency, courage, creativity, and responsibility. Through somatic, expressive arts, and creative interventions, she guides individuals and groups in exploratory inquiries, inviting self-reflection and continued learning. She encourages and supports individuals in taking a path of self-knowledge, clear interpersonal communication, and determination; by traveling this path, people can adventure into the endless mysteries, challenges and opportunities that life offers us.
After three years of a semi-nomadic life in southern and central Mexico, Marialuisa recently relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband and cat. She loves the spaciousness of a simple life where she can make time for reading, writing, creating art, dancing, watching films, hiking in nature, and cooking.
